When you open the Write tab in the admin studio, the very first row presents three Publication Type selector pills:

  1. Poem
  2. Essay / Dispatch
  3. Research Paper

Selecting a type changes the input fields in the editor, controls where the piece appears on the website, and applies the appropriate visual layout.

1. Poem

Select Poem when composing verses, songs, or lyric reflections.

  • Where it appears: Displayed in the dedicated Poems gallery (/poems) and in the general archive.
  • Tailored studio fields:
    • Poetic Form: Specify couplets, quatrains, or free verse.
    • Poetic Theme / Mood: Specify themes such as memory, highland mist, or solitude.
    • Language Tradition: For example, English Verse or Simte with Gloss.
    • Featured Couplet / Key Stanza: An opening stanza hook that highlights on the card preview.
    • Poet’s Reflection: Contextual background notes displayed alongside the verses.
  • Line break preservation: In poem mode, line breaks stay tight line by line, preserving the rhythmic structure of stanzas. The toolbar includes a purple ↵ Verse Break button to insert proper line breaks without creating unwanted gaps.

2. Essay / Dispatch

Select Essay / Dispatch for cultural essays, personal journals, village histories, and opinion pieces.

  • Where it appears: Displayed in the main Writing feed (/feed) and featured on the home page.
  • Tailored studio fields:
    • Fieldwork Location / Context: For example, Pamjal Village, Pherzawl District, Manipur.
    • Primary Topic / Pillar: Broad topic such as Indigenous Knowledge Systems or Oral Traditions.
    • Featured Pull Quote & Attribution: A highlight quotation displayed in large italic script on the article card.
  • Layout styling: Uses comfortable paragraph spacing, drop caps, and full support for markdown subheadings, bullet lists, and embedded images.

3. Research Paper

Select Research Paper for academic publications, linguistic fieldwork studies, and grammar sketches.

  • Where it appears: Displayed in the Research section (/research) with full academic indexing.
  • Tailored studio fields:
    • Journal / Publication: The publishing journal (such as Language in India).
    • Volume / Issue / Pages: Citation numbers (for example, Vol. 23:6, pp. 172-187).
    • ISSN & DOI / Resolver: Formal serial numbers and digital object identifiers.
    • Authors & Affiliation: Full author names and institutions (such as H. Kapginlian (NEHU, Shillong)).
    • Target Language & ISO: ISO 639-3 language codes (for example, Simte (smt)).
    • Linguistic Subdiscipline: Focus areas such as Morphosyntax & Typology.
    • Peer-Reviewed Abstract: A structured academic summary.

Changing the type later

If you begin a draft as an essay and later want to treat it as a poem or research monograph, click the different type pill at the top of the form. The editor switches the tailored fields immediately. When you save or publish, the website places the file in the correct section.
